Painting with Goats – June 22, 2019

We have all heard of Goat Yoga. So why not painting with goats??? On a bright Saturday morning in June, Mom and I headed over to the Chesapeake Farmer’s Market and painted with goats. Having never painted with goats before, we were unsure of the protocol. Do we paint the goats themselves? Do we use the goats to paint on a canvas? Hmmmm….

Upon stepping into the goat ‘corral’, a goat was pushed into my arms – a squealing, squirming, very unhappy-with-the-process, goat. Uh, OK. Now what? How do I paint with a goat in my arms? After a few minutes of trying to hold this squealing darling, we released said goats and found a table. We were provided with a small canvas with the outline of a goat (thank goodness!!!! I don’t think mine would have looked like a goat…). There were a couple of examples that others had painted which we could use for inspiration. We picked our paint colors, got the rest of the supplies and started painting. Then, a goat was placed on our laps. OH!!!!! so, we sit and paint while holding a goat!! Makes so much more sense now…

An hour and a half later, we completed the out paintings and spent quality time hugging on the goats. Goats who became less squeal-y and squirmy as they got tired from all of the handling. Such a great time!! Maybe next time I will just pay to play with goats…. The goats usually dress in PJs while painting, but they were too tired from other events to dress for the day. I will let it slide – they were cute enough as-is! If you are looking for something fun to do, check out https://funwithgoats.com/.
